Special event roars into Montebello
A special anniversary calls for a special party, and the local Lions Club is getting ready for just that.
The Lions Club is turning 100 this year and will be acknowledging this milestone with the Lions Club of Montbello Centennial Celebration. The club is a volunteer service organization whose mission statement says the Lions exist:
“To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing ordinary voluntary service through community involvement and international cooperation.”
The local club is one of more than 48,000 worldwide, with a total membership of approximately 1.4 million, all working to meet humanitarian needs, though each club has different priorities.
In Montebello, the local organization undertakes different projects at various times during the year. Among these are a “Back-to-School Shopping Spree” for youngsters in need, a contest for Student Speaker, a Miniature Golf Tournament, and scholarships.
The Lions also arrange food baskets at Thanksgiving and Easter, collect used eyeglasses, organize the Adopt-a-Family effort, run the Lions Wilderness Camp for the Deaf, support scout troops, and are responsible for many other efforts. The local club is chartered under the Lions International umbrella.
The Lions will be celebrating on Saturday, June 21, starting at 6:00 pm, at the Doubletree Los Angeles hotel at 888 Montebello Boulevard. Special events like this are often enhanced when organizers use banner printing services to create decorations for the venue.
