A celebrated athlete and author has set up a fundraiser in Montebello.
Alan Santana is the driving force behind Alan Santana's Inaugural Charity Bowling Fundraiser, which will take place at Bowlero Montebello. The money raised will go to help support boxers in need.
Although this is apparently an inaugural event for Montebello, it is not the first time Santana has created fundraisers to support other athletes, as he is aware of the toll professional sports takes on participants, and how even a successful career can end in difficult circumstances.
Santana is a former professional boxer and amateur featherweight champion who organized an event to help support Israel Vasquez, the former WBC World Champion. Vasquez had received a cancer diagnosis and needed help covering medical bills. Chris Smith, a boxing historian, contacted Santana to ask if he would use his bowling fundraiser to help support Vasquez, and Santana agreed. The fundraiser on Vasquez’s behalf drew a range of celebrities from the sports world, all of whom were glad to support a beloved colleague.
Santana is also an author. Having seen the problems professional athletes can encounter, he wrote “Unprotected: The Final Round – Navigating the Shark-Infested Waters of Sports, Business & Life.” He shared insights to help young athletes understand the hidden dangers of professional sports.
The fundraiser is scheduled for March 28, and the Bowlero in Montebello is located at 1201 West Beverly Boulevard. Events like this benefit from advertisements organizers create using poster printing.
