Recycling time again in Montebello

It is almost time for a regularly scheduled recycling event to come round again in Montebello.

The recycling in question is electronics, which can pose a problem as they usually cannot simply be tossed in the garbage or the recycling cart, but demand special handling. When they are disposed of improperly, electronics can harm the environment. However, it is often difficult for consumers to dispose of these items in an appropriate manner. Montebello is making it easy for them.

The upcoming recycling event will accept any equipment that has reached either its “end-of-usage” or “end-of-life” stage, whether or not it is in working condition. This applies to almost all electric appliances with a circuit board or cord, and most electronics.

The city is accepting a broad range of products that are often excluded from these efforts. Among the products are landline and cell phones, home entertainment systems, DVD/CD players, VCRs, motherboards, mainframes, power supplies, PDAs, toner cartridges, fax machines, scanners, copiers, laptops, printers, gaming systems, television sets, and computer monitors.

They will also accept batteries from forklifts and cars, as well as major appliances, including microwaves and cooling units, though there is a small fee to recycle these items. Household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs will not be accepted.

The e-waste recycling event is June 10 and 11 at Montebello City Hall, from 9.00 am until 3.00 pm. Organizers of this type of event can use banner printing to help direct people to the appropriate recycling locations.
