Latin and soul near Montebello

A night of Latin Souldies is scheduled for a club in Los Angeles, a short distance from Montebello.

Latin Souldies is a term that refers to the way today’s Latino artists are reinterpreting the classics of R&B as well as producing new works. The music, which is also known as “brown-eyed soul” (a contrast to “blue-eyed soul,” used to refer to white artists like the Isley Brothers), illustrates the influence Black culture has on Latinos.

The Latin Souldies concert features Cold Duck and TIERRA the Legacy Continues. Cold Duck was formed in 1969 when vocalist and trumpet player Jose Cuadra formed a band with seven fellow musicians. They performed throughout Southern California, establishing themselves as the region’s premier dance and party band. They have performed in such venues as MGM, Magic Mountain, and Disneyland, retaining their audiences with their cheerful philosophy.

TIERRA the Legacy Continues, as the name implies, is carrying on the tradition of the original TIERRA band. TIERRA the Legacy recently released “Just a Groove Thing,” perhaps following up the success of the original TIERRA, whose 1981 hit “Together” climbed to No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

The concert venue is Steven's Steakhouse, at 5332 Stevens Place in Commerce, just a few miles from Montebello. The concert is set for August 26, and organizers who schedule events like this can promote them by using poster printing to create colorful advertising.
