History comes to life in Montebello

An upcoming event in Montebello will take visitors back to the 19th century.

The Juan Matias Sanchez Adobe Museum & Historic Site in Montebello will recreate the Battle of Rio San Gabriel, which was fought in 1847 on January 8. The action took place during the Mexican-American War as part of the California campaign, and occurred on the San Gabriel River at a ford in what is now part of Montebello.

Reenactors with authentic weapons (though not loaded with live ammunition), will recreate the battle. Visitors will be able to watch musket-firing demonstrations and smell the black powder used in these weapons. Experts will fire cannons that will literally shake the ground and demonstrate the intensity of battle, and the reenactors will portray soldiers on both sides of the struggle. Battle reenactments are as realistic as possible, and give spectators an up close look at history.

The battle reenactment will take place on January 6, at 12.00pm and again at 3.00pm. The event is not just for history buffs; all members of the family are welcome to come along. In addition to the battle, tasty food will be available. The museum is located at 946 North Adobe Avenue in Montebello. When intricate events like this are planned, organizers can use brochure printing to create Booklets for visitors, explaining their history and complexity in detail.
