A Japanese character beloved the world over is coming to Montebello.
Yuko Shimizu created the fictional Hello Kitty in 1974. The character, a white kitten with a red hair bow, was introduced to sell the first of many items, a vinyl coin purse. First aimed at young girls, the product line expanded to include items for adults, and now Hello Kitty has over 50,000 items displaying the Hello Kitty logo. There are also Hello Kitty theme parks, and Hello Kitty Cafes.
Now, the mobile equivalent of a Hello Kitty café is set to visit Montebello. Hello Kitty has several food trucks that go on national tours annually, bringing a miniature Hello Kitty Café to the locations where they stop. Although the trucks are referred to as cafes, they have a very small menu, mostly limited to specialty desserts. Some of the most popular offerings are giant cookies with frosting designed to look like Hello Kitty wearing a chef’s coat, and a package of five macarons tied with a Hello Kitty bow. Hello Kitty merchandise and other items with food themes, such as water bottles and lunch Boxes, are sold by the food trucks. When they plan events like this, organizers may decide to work with poster printing to create advertising.
The Hello Kitty Café Truck will be in Montebello on December 14, from 10.00 am until 7.00 pm. It will be parked at The Shops at Montebello between Macy’s Home and JC Penney near the main entrance.
