Two area academies honored for teaching and career excellence

Assemblyman Tom Lackey, Linked Learning Alliance officials, and administrators from Antelope Valley Union High School District have given their formal congratulations to the Multimedia and Engineering Academy of Lancaster and the Biomedical Science Academy of Eastside High school on their achievement of gold certification.

These two academies are among the first 12 such schools to be honored this way. Poster printing van be used to make such honors known throughout the community.

The highest standard for career and college preparation is represented by gold certification. Linked Learning is a career-focused program that combines student support, work-based learning, technical and career education, and rigorous academics.

President and CEO of the Linked Learning Alliance, Anne Stanton, remarked that the combination of career-ready and college learning creates a much stronger program than teaching them as separate endeavors. She said her organization is looking forward to when all students will be able to have such a program.

There are now seven academies in the school district based on the philosophy of Linked Learning, with another one scheduled to be opened next year. Superintendent David Vierra said that the program has changed the approach to high school in the district. He added that Lancaster and Eastside are trailblazers and he expects that all the academies in the district will be able to achieve gold certification.
