Glendale cemetery to celebrate Day of the Dead

Cemeteries aren’t typical locations for holiday celebrations, but for the Mexican tradition of Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, Glendale’s Forest Lawn Cemetery feels it is a perfect venue.

The event is aimed at families and will include traditional activities like dance and mariachi performances. Young visitor can also take place in themed arts and crafts such as Catrina sculptures, and alebrije spirit animal artwork. There will also be food trucks providing authentic Mexican and other flavurs from the local community.

Dia de los Muertos is a day for honoring lost loved ones and is typically celebrated on November 1 or 2, with festivities known worldwide for colorful facepaint and a party-like atmosphere. Attendees to the Glendale event are invited to dress up appropriately for the occasion, or just come as they are.

These holiday events are being hosted at four Forest Lawn cemeteries throughout California, including Coachella Valley, Covina Hills and Cathedral City. Holiday events like this often use tools like flyer printing and social media to advertise and provide inspiration. Promotional text for Forest Lawn’s Dia de los Muertos events quotes the company’s Vice President Rodolfo Saenz:

“Forest Lawn's lively and colorful Dia de los Muertos events welcome the community to our memorial parks for an authentic Mexican celebration of life.”

The Dia de los Muertos celebration will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery Glendale on the afternoon of November 2.
