Following the recent acquisition of grants totaling nearly $10m, the MSW program at CSUF will be well-positioned to offer enhanced support in the field of mental health in the modern world.
Cal State Fullerton's Master of Social Work (MSW) program already has a reputation for making a significant impact in equipping the future generation of clinicians, social workers, and behavioral health practitioners that will serve the community of Orange County. The California Department of Health Care Access and Information awarded the CSUF with a $4.75m grant, which will enable the university to enhance its MSW program. The grant will support a series of initiatives, starting with the expansion of the MSW program's capacity.
The grant facilitates the establishment of a Latinx Certificate Program, which will formalize fieldwork and training focused on serving the community's Latinx population. Funding will also be allocated for a study-abroad initiative, enabling students to apply their skills and engage with local communities located in Spanish-speaking countries. Brochure printing could be used to share such programs.
Mikyong Kim-Goh, the CSUF Department of Social Work chair, stated that clinicians produced through the program would start their career in a way that would serve the Latinx community better.
The grant will also provide support for the development of a Pupil Personnel Service tailored for MSW students who aspire to be social workers in school-based settings.
