Fullerton’s Maverick Theater is hosting the comedy group Improv Shmimprov this February.
A staple of the Orange County comedy scene, Improv Shmimprov has performed at over 1,000 sold-out shows in its over two decades in existence. With a panache for the irreverent, the comedy group is known for its unscripted detours into the absurd and over-the-top performances.
There is no age restriction on who can attend the show, but it is known for occasionally incorporating more adult humor, ranging from PG-13 to R in terms of content. Performances are usually between an hour and an hour and a half long.
With a mission to attract general audiences who do not normally go to stage productions, the volunteer-based Maverick Theater incorporates pop culture, history and screenplays into its shows. Founded in 2002, the venue includes a black box stage and a cabaret stage, and opened its permanent Fullerton location in 2005.
Co-founded by Nathan Makaryk in 2002 as part of a fledgling improv group out of UC Irvine, Improv Shmimprov began selling out shows immediately upon finding its permanent home at the Maverick Theatre, thanks to a combination of word-of-mouth and foot traffic.
Comedy events like this may choose to use flyer printing to create low-cost promotional material for distribution in the community.
Improv Shmimprov is performing on Friday, February 13 at 11:00 pm at the Maverick Theater at 110 E Walnut Ave in Fullerton.
