Outdoor dining continues into 2024

Fullerton’s Walk on Wilshere turned into a location for outdoor dining during the pandemic, and city officials have confirmed that it will remain so until 2024.

A part of the boulevard was closed to traffic so that restaurants could seat people outside. Back in March, the city council voted to bring an end to the temporary rule that allowed restaurants to offer outdoor dining on public streets and private parking lots without them having to get the necessary permits. Businesses in Fullerton were given until September 30th to decide if they wanted to put in applications and pay the fees for licenses that would allow them to continue.

On August 16, the city council decided that businesses located on the Walk on Wilshire will have until the end of the year to put in their applications for outdoor dining. Interested parties will need to fill out Fullerton’s application for outdoor dining and sign the encroachment agreement which obligates them to pay fees to lease the necessary space. Some parking spots will have to be sacrificed for the outdoor dining to continue. Printing services could be used to direct people to available parking spots.

A part of Wilshire Avenue that was made for cyclists goes through the Walk on Wilshire. For a while, cyclists were asked to get off their bikes and walk through, but the center of the promenade is now a dedicated bike path on which cars are prohibited.
