Fullerton Union High School honored for theater program

Fullerton Union High School has received the prestigious recognition of being designated as a Premier Community for Theatre Education, acknowledging its unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to the field of theater.

The Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) acknowledges and honors schools that exhibit exemplary achievement in their efforts to provide inclusive access and quality education in the field of theater to all students. Principal Laura Rubio paid tribute to the arts, noting that the school and community would not be the same without them, and that the award reflects how hard the teachers and community have worked in this area.

In order to meet the eligibility criteria for the award, Fullerton Union underwent a rigorous evaluation process. They provided comprehensive information about various aspects such as funding, teacher training and assessment, theater course syllabi and involvement, teaching hours, infrastructure, and backing for their theater program. The responses were cross-checked with authentic documentation and assessed by the Educational Theatre Association. Promotional pens can be given as donations to local schools at important times like this.

Numerous studies have substantiated the positive impacts of school theater on both educational and social-emotional development. For instance, one study revealed that middle school students at risk of academic challenges who participated in an after-school musical theater program exhibited enhanced qualities such as increased self-confidence, creativity, resilience, responsibility, teamwork, and a heightened sense of belonging to a community.
