Fullerton teacher named as award finalist

Brian Kim, an agricultural instructor at Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, has been named a finalist for the 2022-2023 Agricultural Educator of the Year award by the California FFA, California Farm Bureau, and Nationwide.

To acknowledge the valuable contributions of agricultural educators and provide them with further support, Nationwide founded the Golden Owl Award in 2018 to celebrate exceptional teachers across multiple states. Print shops can be visited to create certificates for winners.

Jamie Johansson, the California Farm Bureau President, said in a statement:

“We see the positive impact that the FFA program has had for many of our members, who have gone on to become leaders in Farm Bureau and in the agriculture community. Our farm and ranch members recognize the efforts of local teachers to support the next generation of agriculturalists.”

From September 1 to January 23, 2023, the three organizing bodies received over 800 nominations for the finest agricultural educators in California, submitted by parents, students, and other community members throughout the state. Once the six finalists have been announced, a committee will award one finalist the title of California's grand prize winner and Agricultural Educator of the Year. The recipient will be presented with the esteemed Golden Owl Award trophy and an extra $3,000 check funded by Nationwide to promote the advancement of their program.
