the Fullerton School District (FSD) has added a chapter to its history. FSD now has the largest proportion of Platinum-level distinction schools in California, marking an incredible milestone in the district's dedication to promoting student achievement via Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Promotional pens are popular hand-outs at school-related events.
Dr. Helene Morris, the FSD Director of Administrative Services, was at the event where the recognition was made and she commented to say:
“Fullerton School District is known for its unprecedented growth and achievement in meeting the needs of our learners.”
PBIS was formed in order to prepare kids to do well in school and in life. It works on a research-based framework that is founded on the idea that, similar to academic abilities, students require deliberate and careful instruction on behavioral standards. The program uses a tiered approach to empower teachers and school administrators to actively teach and promote positive behaviors, fostering environments that foster growth in each student's intellect and manners. Additionally, it fits in perfectly with Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, creating a strong basis for the development and well-being of the entire child.
As the first and only district in Orange County to deploy PBIS on school buses, FSD has gone above and beyond by extending PBIS outside conventional settings.
