Council agrees on shopping center project

After deliberating for over a year and holding multiple meetings with the public, the leaders in Fullerton have given their stamp of approval on a proposed real estate project.

The project intends to put up over 100 homes, as well as commercial spaces in the Sunrise Shopping Center. The members of the city council all voted in favor of the development after the original scope of the project was reduced to 49 one-family units, 64 townhouses, and four new commercial buildings. The original proposal, which was submitted in October 2021, featured 114 townhouses.

After the vote, Councilmember Ahmad Zahra commented:

“I did meet with all sides and I was very happy to see a compromise. While I think I would have maybe liked to see a few more townhomes, just to allow more families to come in, if this is where we are, then we have to accept that.”

Another reason why the original plan was revised was a residents' group voicing its objections to losing a major shopping center.

For the project to proceed, some buildings located on the plot will need to be demolished. The space created by these demolitions will be used for commercial developments. One building with 4,000 square feet of commercial space will be remodeled. Banner printing can be used to inform the public about any ongoing works on a construction site.
