Escondido’s younger folks who have always wanted to meet a dragon will soon be able to do just that as part of a local program that seeks to make reading a bit more fun.
The ‘Read to a Dragon’ initiative is being offered by the Escondido Public Library. The kids who participate will be able to learn about bearded dragon lizards and even get to spend some time with these new scaly friends.
One of EcoVivarioum’s trained animal educators will be on hand to facilitate the activity, and the children will learn some facts about lizards and other reptiles while they practice their reading. The event is intended for kids between the ages 5 to 12, and there is no registration fee being charged.
In an effort to make sure that each child gets as much as possible from the program, and also to help keep the mini-dragons from being overwhelmed, the size of each group has been limited to five seats. Four timeslots are available, and the parents or caregivers can choose the one that works best for their child. Area Print shops can use comb binding and other techniques to craft inexpensive reading and activity Books that can be distributed during an event like this.
This opportunity for Escondido’s kids to develop a love for the written word while they spend time with some friendly lizards has been organized for October 25, as well as November 8 and 29. More details are available by contacting 760-839-5456.
