Halloween movies at Escondido Drive-in

Despite ongoing restrictions, Halloween this year is not without fun options. The Escondido Drive-in is playing some seasonal favorites over the Halloween weekend.

The movie weekend is presented by the California Center for the Arts in Escondido and is hosted by Cal State San Marcos, the home of the drive-in, which has become a popular destination this summer as residents and families maintain social distancing.

The Halloween fun begins on Friday, October 30, with a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which has developed a cult following since its release as a musical and a movie in the 1970s. The show has a twist, however, as a live cast will be performing the musical number on stage as the movie plays overhead.

The following night, Halloween itself, the animated movie Coco will be playing. The family-friendly story is of a young boy who pursues his dream of becoming a musician despite the objections of his family, and centers on the Mexican traditions of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

Proceeds from the events go to the Cal State San Marcos School for the Arts, as well as the California Center for the Arts Escondido. Drive-in movie events for non-profits can use banner printing services for recognizing event sponsors.

Tickets for The Rocky Horror Picture Show are $35 per person, and showtime is 8:00 pm on Friday, October 30. Tickets for Coco are $25 per car, with showtime on Saturday, October 31 at 8:00 pm. The Drive-in is located at Cal State San Marcos at 333 South Twin Oaks Valley Road.
