Bicycle enthusiasts will want to be in Escondido soon for a day of racing fun.
The Giro di San Diego offers riders four routes to select from. The GranFondo – Mesa Grande is 95 miles long, while the GranFondo – Palomar covers 59 miles. The MedioFondo is 30 miles in length, and the PiccoloFondo is 25 miles long. The terms come from the Italian racing tradition.
The races will have a mass start, with all the riders beginning their courses together. The excitement of this type of start will have everyone energized for the event. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be on hand to provide aid if anyone needs help.
In addition, the routes will be chip timed so riders can compare their results with earlier performances. Those who have the stamina and are up for the challenge can tackle a timed climb up Palomar Mountain.
There will be rest stops available on all the routes, and, in keeping with the Italian influence, an Italian feast is planned after the event ends. All riders will receive a Finisher’s Medal, and a beer garden with a live band will end to the day.
All the courses begin and end at Ryan Park is Escondido, and race day is Saturday, June 8, with the rides beginning at 7.15 am. Organizers of outdoor events like this will often turn to banner printing to create appropriate signage for the routes.
