Smartphones and SUVs will be replaced by swords and spears at a unique Escondido festival that transports visitors into the past.
The Escondido Renaissance Faire celebrates life under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I (1558-1603). Considered by historians to be the height of English culture, the Elizabethan era was a time of great art and military might, being the time of William Shakespeare and the English navy’s triumph over Spain.
Visitors are encouraged to dress up in costume if possible and immerse themselves in the fantasy world. Organizers expect hundreds of people to be wearing historic clothing.
There will be field battles to watch, and visitors can stop in King Richard’s Tavern for a brew before going out to witness the archery demonstration.
There is an area with special activities for children, and a market with a variety of vendors selling their wares.
Though there were no Print shops at the time, these days festivals such as this one have the luxury of professionally printed Banners, Signs, and maps.
The festival is put on by Olde Tyme Productions, which organizes various fantasy and pirate festivals.
The Escondido Renaissance Faire is scheduled for two weekends: Saturday, October 24 to Sunday, October 25, and Saturday, October 31 to Sunday, November 1. Hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm every day. The festival takes place at Felicita County Park, 742 Clarence Lane.
