Escondido legion celebrates 100 years with Veterans Festival

As part of its 100th birthday celebrations, the American Legion J.B. Clark Post 149 Escondido is hosting the first-ever Escondido Veterans Festival.

The local legion has been helping veterans and their families since 1919 by providing financial assistance and other services throughout the community all year.

The event is called Escondido VetFest, and will be a day to honor and remember United States’ military veterans, past and present.

The festival will feature a parade in the morning and will end with a Backyard BBQ and ceremony in the afternoon. The parade will take place on Grand Avenue and local businesses are encouraged to decorate their storefronts for a patriotic storefront decorating contest.

In contests such as these, local business owners can use printing services to create patriotic Banners and Posters to use in their storefront windows.

Escondido VetFest takes place on November 11, which is Veterans Day across the U.S. The parade on Grand Avenue will start at 9:30 a.m. at Grand and N. Broadway and will head down Grand to N. Juniper, where it will turn around and head back to N. Broadway.

The Backyard BBQ and veterans ceremony will take place from noon until 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 230 E. Park Avenue.

There will also be a Veterans Day ceremony at Grape Day Park next to Escondido City Hall at 11 a.m. There will be a ceremony at the Wall of Courage, where veterans and/or their families will share their stories. Seating will be limited.
