Escondido recently played host to an event that attracted comic book and pop culture fans, as well as other 'nerds' from the surrounding area.
The very first Nerd Con drew a crowd of around 3,000 fans of sci-fi, video games, cosplay, comics, and anime. It was held at the California Center for the Arts in the community, and according to those who attended, it was an enjoyable event.
The convention was not as large as some well-known ones of its ilk, such as ComicCon, but it did have its advantages. There lines were not nearly as long, and there was plenty of opportunity to network with artists and other fans of the genre.
Trisha Murphy, who was one of the people who organized the event, noted that she felt a bit overwhelmed by the crowd who showed up to take part, but it was also very rewarding to see how much her efforts were appreciated.
