Students in Escondido’s Modern Maker Market’s ‘Bread Baking with Sourdough’ class next month will discover that making sourdough at home can be easier than they might think.
Using the sourdough technique is a method for producing leavened bread that has been used for hundreds of years. It produces a distinctive taste that is appreciated by many.
Making sourdough may sound like a complicated process, but the workshop, which will be taught by Sabine Friedrich-Walter, will seek to make it simple. The participants will be invited to roll up their sleeves and join in the bread making, and the recipe will be demonstrated right from scratch.
The bread will be made using a sourdough starter, and the session will include a review of how to refresh a dormant starter. The class will also be given tips they can use to help keep their baking day organized. They will find out how bread dough needs to rise and be proofed, and they will complete the final baking at home.
Along with the baking, the students will be welcome to do some taste testing. Both wheat and rye sourdoughs will be sampled, and each of the pupils will be going home from the class with Copies of recipes and other handouts. A printing services provider will be able to supply items like these.
This flavorful workshop on the way to Escondido will be held on February 2. Modern Maker Market is located at 140 South Juniper Street.
