A singer, songwriter, film director and actor will be performing in Escondido.
Despite his work in films like “Sling Blade” and “Wedding Crashers,” Dwight Yoakam is probably best known as a country singer. He says he has been influenced by genres like rockabilly, bluegrass, and the Bakersfield sound, which, along with his unique tenor vocals, have led to success.
Yoakam writes most of his material, but also has enjoyed substantial success covering songs of other artists such as Queen, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Horton. He has also enjoyed successful collaborations with artists like k.d. lang and John Mellencamp.
Yoakam began his recording career in 1986 with “Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc.,” and followed that in 1987 with “Hillbilly Deluxe.” The next year, he dropped “Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room,” and all three hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart. He has two singles that reached the top spot, and 12 more that made it into the Top 10. He has one Academy of Country Music award, and two Grammys to his credit.
A review of Yoakam in concert says:
“The crowd flowed out into the cool evening air . . . with conversations of praise and ‘that was so awesome’ because Yoakam did not disappoint . . .”
Dwight Yoakam will be at the California Center for the Arts Concert Hall on July 22. Posters are a traditional way to advertise events like this, and they can be created by organizers using poster printing.
