Yoga group with a difference in Encinitas

A group focusing on women’s wellness is meeting in Encinitas.

Leitra Jocham, a designer who works on original art installations, is creating a group focused on health that will meet in her front yard, near a chicken run. This has given the group its name: “chicken therapy yoga.” Jocham says that being close to the chickens and hearing them has relaxing qualities, hence she decided to hold the yoga sessions there and make them available to the neighborhood.

The group meetings offer 50 minutes of yoga to restore and relax people, and is open to all levels of yoga practitioners. The meeting also includes another 15 minutes of meditation coupled with sound healing. Time will be left to discuss women’s needs regarding wellness and health, and practice any methods suggested. Homemade refreshments are part of the day as well.

The hosts are gardeners who aspire to become urban farmers, and they hope to develop a community space where everyone will feel welcome. Attendance is limited, however, to those over the age of 12. Organizers of events of this type can uses flyer printing to create handouts for attendees.

The group will meet bi-monthly at the Beach Farm House, at 1237 Hymettus Avenue in Encinitas. The meeting is donation-based as a way to bring the community members together. Anyone who would enjoy teaching or collaborating is encouraged to contact Leitra.

The upcoming meeting is scheduled for this Sunday, May 2 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
