Encinitas will host its celebrated Kook Run this February. It will feature both 10K and 5K routes along the Pacific coastline.
The course, known for panoramic ocean views and the iconic surf break, begins under the historic Encinitas sign downtown. Participants navigate a gradual descent before facing moderate inclines on the return stretch, culminating in a final downtown segment.
Runners of all skill levels are encouraged to take part. The event integrates a post-race festival with live music, vendors, refreshments, and official timing for 10K competitors. Race registration includes a finisher medal, a premium shirt, and access to two aid stations along the 10K route. Split times are also provided, and participants can enjoy professional photography capturing their performance.
The weekend festivities include a costume contest open to all attendees. Categories recognize group, themed, and original “Kook” costumes, with prizes granted to the top three participants. Registration for the contest is free on race day from 6:30 am to 7:15 am, with awards distributed at 9:30 am. Contestants must be present to qualify.
Parking is available at multiple public lots, including Moonlight Beach, the Civic Center, and the Encinitas Library.
Tickets range from $60 for the 5K to $75 for the 10K, with discounted rates for youth participants.
Banner printing opportunities may be available for sponsors or local businesses to display support along the course during events such as this one.
The race will occur in Downtown Encinitas, 101 E. D St, Encinitas, California 92024 on Sunday, February 8th, starting at 7:30 am.
