Beginner workshop in Encinitas teaches collar design

A hands-on sewing session in Encinitas will introduce participants to creating detachable collars, an accessory gaining attention in seasonal fashion styling.

The instructional workshop, led by designer Arial Cohen of Style Ari, guides attendees through the process of designing and stitching decorative collars while building foundational sewing skills.

Participants will receive step-by-step instructions for working with delicate, lightweight fabrics, including lace and cotton. The session also demonstrates techniques for decorative details such as ruffles, frills, and trim finishes. Organizers say the goal is to help beginners gain confidence with small accessory projects while also offering useful construction knowledge for individuals with prior sewing experience.

During the class, each attendee will produce one or two wearable collars. Design options include a lace piece with soft detailing, a more structured cotton version, or a statement accessory with layered ruffles. After registering, students select materials from a curated fabric assortment prepared by the studio.

The workshop includes all necessary equipment and materials. Participants will leave with completed handmade accessories and printed patterns that can be reused for future garment embellishments or clothing projects.

General admission is priced at $200. After a $25 promotional discount and $15.26 in service charges, the total ticket cost is $215.26.

Event organizers often rely on digital promotion alongside traditional outreach methods such as poster printing to reach local creative communities.

The workshop takes place Sunday, May 17th, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Thread Spun, 1114 North Coast Highway 101, Suite 4, Encinitas, California.
