Encinitas plans traditional festival

A traditional event that is celebrated throughout the world has its own version coming up in Encinitas.

The Encinitas Chamber of Commerce is the host of the 29th Annual Encinitas Oktoberfest & Artisan Faire, which will stretch for approximately a mile along Mountain View Drive, between Rambling Road and Wandering Road. The festival features both Encinitas businesses and local artisans and will include an authentic German beer garden where people can relax and watch dance troupes and musicians playing Bavarian music.

Other highlights include a food court featuring international dishes, German refreshments, and a specialty beer garden featuring local craft beers, which is new this year. Carnival rides and attractions will be fun for the entire family. Children will particularly enjoy face painting, crafts, and a favorite of everyone, a costume contest for dogs.

More than 130 artisans from the local area will be present with unique, handcrafted products including clothing, ceramics, jewelry, and more.

German farmers founded the Olivenhain area of Encinitas in 1884, bringing their traditions with them. The city began its version of the festival in 1984 and scheduled it for mid-September, to coincide with the start of Oktoberfest in Germany.

The Chamber is extending a “Willkommen” to everyone in the area. The event is free, pet-friendly, and for people of all ages. Oktoberfest is scheduled for September 28, from 11.00 am until 7.00 pm. When they plan events like this, organizers can use flyer printing to create lists of vendors for attendees.
