Classical music series planned for Encinitas

A music festival featuring the classics is coming to Encinitas.

The City of Encinitas established the Tramonto Music Festival to give audiences the chance to enjoy classical music performed by award-winning, notable international musicians.

The first evening is called “Liquid Harmonies,” and the program comprises “Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons,” which is Richter’s version of the classic composition by Vivaldi. Richter is a contemporary composer.

The other works are “The Fountains of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi; two movements, “Aquarium” and “The Swan” from “Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns; and “Mar D’Arrels” (Aral Sea) by Gabriel Fiol.

The second evening features music with a Spanish flavor. The program is called “Echoes of the South,” and features “7 Canciones Populares Españolas” by Manuel De Falla, a Spaniard; “Bachianas Brasileiras No.5: Aria” by Brazilian Heitor Villa-Lobos; “Spanish Dance” by Myroslav Skoryk; “Rapsodie Espagnole” by Maurice Ravel; and Argentinean Astor Piazzolla’s “The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.”

The final concert in the series is “Eternal Classics” and comprises “Cello Sonata No. 3 Op. 69 in A Major by Beethoven; Trio élégiaque No. 1 by Sergei Rachmaninoff; and Nino Rota’s “Sonata for violin and piano.” Rota best known to U.S. audiences as the Oscar-winning composer of the score for the first two “Godfather” films.

The concerts are scheduled for July 18, 19, and 20 at the Encinitas Library, at 2.00 pm. To enhance performances like this, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts describing the works and musicians.
