Encinitas facilitates youth writing

An eight-day summer program focused on developing writing skills among elementary students will be held in Encinitas.

Organized by the San Diego Area Writing Project, the camp is designed for students entering third through sixth grade, and emphasizes creativity, collaboration, and skill-building in written expression.

The program will be led by credentialed instructors and supported by teaching assistants, with class sizes limited to approximately 25 students per group. Instruction will include drafting, editing, revising, and publishing written work. Participants will explore multiple literary Forms while building confidence through guided exercises and peer collaboration. At the conclusion of the program, each student’s work will be included in a published collection.

Organizers emphasize the importance of full attendance to maintain continuity and ensure a consistent learning experience for each attendee. The curriculum is structured to support both skill development and creative exploration in a classroom environment designed for engagement.

Enrollment is priced at $600 per participant. Registration is available for both grade groups, with separate sessions for grades three through four and grades five through six, each offered at the same rate. Families may request a partial reimbursement until June 8; no reimbursements will be issued after that date. Registration closes on June 19.

Promotional strategies for events like this often include poster printing to inform local communities.

The camp will run from June 22 through July 1, from 8:30 am to noon daily at Cardiff Elementary School, 1888 Montgomery Ave, Encinitas.
