Encinitas area celebrates Day of the Dead

A colorful traditional celebration is coming back to Encinitas area.

The 11th annual Encinitas Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a free event aimed at faimilies. The day is an important celebration of Latino culture, but welcomes people from all traditions and backgrounds. Each year, thousands of people from throughout San Diego County and North County come to Cardiff by the Sea, a short distance from Encinitas, to enjoy the fun.

People attending will get the chance to enjoy performances by Ballet Folklorico troupes, as well as Mariachi bands. In addition, there will be a low-rider car show, raffles, an exhibit by local student artists featuring Day of the Dead art, artists’ demonstrations, and art-making workshops. Food will be available for attendees to purchase, and an oferenda will be set up at MiraCosta San Elijo Campus. Anyone who would like to contribute a remembrance of their loved ones will be welcome to do so.

The origins of the Dia de los Muertos celebration is unclear, but it is thought to be a blend of Spanish culture, European religion, and Mesoamerican ritual. As part of the holiday, families celebrate being briefly reunited with deceased relatives and share drink, food, and festivities with them.

The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 25, from 12.00 pm until 4.00 pm on the San Elijo campus of MiraCosta College, located at 3333 Manchester Avenue in Cardiff by the Sea. Events like this can benefit when organizers use poster printing to create advertising for them.
