Sweet music in Encinitas

A popular music series is continuing in Encinitas with a performance in May.

Since 2012, the Encinitas Library has been the venue for Music by the Sea, a series of concerts featuring artists who have won the Beverly Hills National Auditions. Laura Schmieder is the artistic director of the auditions, and under her guidance, over 100 artists from around the globe have been selected to take part. Each season, nine of the artists are chosen to perform at Music by the Sea.

The upcoming concert features Brightfeather, a duo comprising violinist Benjamin Hoffman and pianist Irene Kim. Hoffman has performed around the world as part of a chamber music group at festivals such as Music Academy of the West, and Yellow Barn. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, and served as concertmaster for orchestras such as the Szechuan Orchestra of China and the New Haven Symphony.

Irene Kim, a Los Angeles native, has won international competitions and performed in venues around the world including the Library of Congress, the Kennedy Center, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. She has won raves for her powerful performances, which include playing the Third Piano Concerto by Prokofiev without a conductor. She enjoys collaborating with others and believes in the importance of art as a connection between people.

The concert is set for May 19 at 7:30 pm. The library is on Cornish Drive, where organizers of this type of event might use brochure printing to create programs for the audience.
