A fiesta is on the calendar in Encinitas featuring both music and dance.
Maracuyá's Summertime Fiesta is headlined by Maracuyá, a 17-piece Latin band that first got together in summer, 2019, and has made a name for itself in and around San Diego with its high-energy Afro-Latin Pop music performances.
The group comprises established Latin music artists who tour and perform in the country and around the world, as well as being active in their communities in San Diego. Percussionist Diego Velasquez is the leader of the band.
Also on the program are DJ Saul Timba, and dancer Josh Gorden. When the band is not playing, Timba will have a Latin soundtrack to the event featuring reggaeton, cumbia, bachata, salsa, and timba.
Gorden is one of the foremost dance instructors in San Diego. He began salsa dancing in 2007, and was a pupil of Eddie Torres Senior, who taught in New York City. Josh is the founder of “Salsa on the Beach,” which he began in 2012 in New Jersey to bring together dancers from different communities and skill levels. He has transplanted his idea, and his San Diego version of “Salsa on the Beach” has been going strong for 11 years. Josh will be the host of a “dance along” class at the fiesta.
Maracuyá's Summertime Fiesta is scheduled for July 22 at Piña on South Coast Highway in Encinitas. Hosts of events such as this can work with flyer printing to create handouts advertising the fun.
