A concert of popular music will be performed soon in Encinitas, featuring the work of American composers.
The North Coast Symphony Orchestra will be joined by the Villa Musica Community Chorus for the event, which has the theme of “Americana Extravaganza.” The chorus will sing “America” by Irving Berlin, as well as “I Hear America Singing,” a poem by Walt Whitman, set to music.
Also on the program are “America the Beautiful,” by Samuel A. Ward, and favorites from composer Leroy Anderson, who wrote such tunes as “Sleigh Ride,” and “Blue Tango.” Also on the program are Paul Lavender's adaptation of “A Tribute to John Williams,” and Calvin Custer's arrangement of “Duke Ellington!” One of the most popular pieces is sure to be Aaron Copland's “Fanfare for the Common Man.”
The North Coast Symphony Orchestra is based in the coastal region of northern San Diego County, and is futures musicians who enjoy bring classical music to residents throughout the area. Villa Musica is open to everyone, without an audition, though members work on musicianship throughout the year, and present an annual recital.
The concert will start at 2:30 pm this Saturday, July 13, at the Encinitas Community Center located on Oakcrest Park Drive. Admission is $10, or $8 for seniors, military, or families. Families of three or more may pay $25 total. Events like this are often promoted through poster printing.
