Parade will kick off holidays in Encinitas

Encinitas will get its holiday celebrations off and running with one of its biggest traditions, its Holiday Parade.

The 2019 Encinitas Holiday Parade will feature over 100 entries that will cruise, or scoot, cycle, march, or roll down 101, the Coast Highway. This is the 62nd year in a row that the parade has launched the holidays in this coastal city.

Marching bands, people in cars, marchers, and people riding on floats will be included in the thousands of parade participants, while thousands more cheer them on from the sidelines. Many of the entries in the parade hope to win one of the prizes offered in various categories, including overall impression, spirit, music, performance, creativity, and lights.

The theme of this year's parade is ‘Encinitas on the Move!’ The parade takes advantage of the fact that many residents here enjoy active lifestyles, use alternative transportation, enjoy biking, and prefer innovative ways of getting around. Parade organizers encourage entrants to build creative, amazing, fun floats.

The festivities start with a countdown, and then a tree lighting ceremony. Santa will make an appearance to get things started. Banner printing can be used to create a marker showing the starting point of this kind of event.

The parade is scheduled for December 7, with Santa appearing at 5:00 pm, and the parade starting at 5:30 pm. The Coast Highway will be closed at 4:00 pm to give spectators a chance to find a good spot to watch the event. Shuttle buses will run to various outlying parking lots.
