New improvements to Moonlight State Beach and a new community park are on the horizon for Encinitas. The city council gave the green light to the projects during its July 11 meeting and construction will begin in September.
A ground-breaking for the beach improvement will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 24, at 400 B Street. Planned improvements include replacing the existing restroom and concession building and relocating it by the parking lot. This move will free up beach area and create a new facility encompassing approximately 3,600 square feet. A new garage for lifeguard vehicles will double as an overlook area for the public.
The new Encinitas Community Park’s ground-breaking will commence the following Monday, August 27, at 453 Santa Fe Drive. The park will encompass 44 acres on the west side of Interstate 5 between Birmingham and Santa Fe Drives. Planned walking paths will allow residents a safe place to walk, while benches in alcoves will provide comfortable places to rest and observe the dense landscaping and dry creek bed. Drafting plans for projects of this size are often professionally printed by a printing company.
Two restroom facilities and five parking lots will provide plenty of amenities for residents. Also planned is a 13,000-square-foot skate park in the north end of the park. Dogs will also be welcome at the park with their own two-acre dog park on the west side.
Both projects are expected to be completed by May 2013. For more information call (760) 633-2740.
