Musical evening planned in Encinitas

An unusual evening combining music and art is scheduled for Encinitas.

The Art of Elan, a chamber music group, is partnering with Lux Art Institute to present art and music together in a unique venue. In this case, the environment is the Lux Art Institute, an art museum that celebrates art of all kinds, and which usually has an artist in residence.

The Art of Elan is the creation of Kate Hatmaker and Demarre McGill, who are professional musicians. McGill is the Seattle Symphony Orchestra's principal flutist, and Hatmaker plays violin in the San Diego Symphony. The other members of the ensemble include Chi-Yuan Chen on viola; Pei-Chun Tsai and Jessica Guideri on violin, and Yao Zhao on the cello.

The aim of Art of Elan is to expand the reach of classical music by bringing new audiences to it, with the ultimate goal of exciting them and creating future generations of those who love classical music.

The upcoming program features the Kontras Quartet, which is one of Lux's artists-in-residence, who will play works by Dmitri Shostakovich and Jessie Montgomery, as well as performing “Hidden Mothers” in its world premiere performance. The work is for string quartet and was commissioned by Art of Elan from Steven Snowden.

The concert is set for April 15, at 7:00 pm. Lux Art Institute is on El Camino Real in Encinitas. Brochure printing can provide informative programs for events like this.
