Composers writing during the Baroque Period gave the world some of its greatest music. A master of this period and its instruments will appear soon in Encinitas.
Eric Dickerson has been playing professionally for more than two decades, and has devoted his career to Historical Performance Practice. Artists who do this play the instruments that would have been used at the time. In Dickerson’s case, he performs on the mandolin, guitar, and lute. When special musical performances like this are planned, organizers will often use poster printing to create suitable advertisements to call attention to them.
His upcoming concert is entitled “Bach and Lute,” and includes his own arrangements of an A Major sonata from Slyvius Leopold Weiss, and Johann Sebastian Bach’s first Cello Suite. Bach, along with George Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi, are considered the most important composers of the Baroque Period. Other familiar names from this era of history include Domenico Scarlatti and Tomaso Albinoni.
In 2010, Fred Benedetti began instructing Dickerson in classical guitar, and in 2015, he finished his bachelor’s degree, specializing in the eleven-string alto guitar, guided by German classical guitarist Andreas Koch. San Diego State University granted Dickerson a master’s degree in music performance, after which he went on to take private lessons with Davide Rebuffa, who taught him mandolino, and with Vinicius Perez, who was his instructor on the Baroque lute. Now, he is a seasoned professional, with performances scheduled all over the country, including in Encinitas
Eric Dickerson will appear at the Encinitas Library on February 7, from 12.00pm until 1.00pm.
