Live looping artist to play Encinitas

An artist who specializes in the increasingly popular musical practice of live looping is set to appear in Encinitas.

Rick Harchol performs classic rock, soul, pop, and R&B covers from the 1960s to today and includes his own material. In addition to live looping, Harchol plays legendary Stones guitarist/vocalist Keith Richards in three Rolling Stones tribute bands: The Ultimate Stones, The Hollywood Stones, and Satisfaction.

He has been heard on RuPaul, Oprah, A&E, CMT, MTV, The Discovery Channel, and HBO. He also co-wrote, performed, and produced seven songs for “The Identical,” a 2014 film starring Seth Green, Ashley Judd, and Ray Liotta. During his live looping performances, he uses a looper and amp modeling so he can control the process with a single volume knob, going from quiet to lively in an instant.

Live looping is the practice of laying down track after track in real time, in front of an audience, to create a song that sounds like it is being sung by the vocalist artist plus a backing group and instruments. Harchol is happy to perform or simply provide ambient instrumental music, and describes himself as a “one man band.” Flyer printing is often used to create advertising for events like this.

Harchol will be at the Roxy Encinitas on July 10 at 4:30 pm.
