Kicking off ski season in Encinitas

Skiers and snowboarders—and those who just love winter—have an event coming up just for them in Encinitas.

The late Warren Miller was an American filmmaker who made over 70 films about snowboarding and skiing. Fans will be able to see his most recent effort, his 72nd movie, soon. The event is a highlight for enthusiasts who see it as a traditional winter kickoff.

The movie, “Winter Starts Now,” features people who have appeared in other films and may be familiar to audiences. The film visits locations that are appealing and calming, where the beauty of nature gives visitors a break from their daily lives. The film takes viewers to Prince William Sound in Alaska, and to Maine, where crafters love to slide on snow. Miller also explores the ways in which adaptive athletes resolve to keep pursuing the sports they love.

Among those who appear in the film are skiers Connery Lundin and Marcus Caston, who go on a road trip to Alaska. Vasu Sojitra, Madison Rose, and JT Holmes are also featured. Holmes is a speedrider who also works as a stuntman in Hollywood. He has appeared in films including “The Amazing Spider Man 2,” “Fast and Furious 7,” and “Godzilla.” He won a Taurus World Stunt Award for his work in “Transformers 3.”

The event is set for December 11 at 7:00 pm at the La Paloma Theatre in Encinitas. Poster printing is often used to create advertising for events like this.
