Flowery event in Encinitas

An upcoming event in Encinitas will give orchid lovers a chance to see their favorite flowers in various settings.

The San Diego Botanic Gardens will be hosting the World of Orchids, a showcase of orchids that is now in its second year. The exhibition will mark the start of Mother’s Day weekend and will be staged by the Garden in its glass-enclosed facility, the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, which covers 8,000 square feet, and is the latest in botanical science.

René van Rems, who is a member of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD), is the Garden’s Artist-in-Residence, and is serving as the exhibit’s Creative Director for the second consecutive year. He will create a different display for each week of the event, which will let visitors explore different ways of arranging orchids each time they visit. The designs will feature rare species, locally raised hybrids, and gorgeous specimens arranged in unexpected ways.

In addition to the orchids that the conservatory already grows, private growers will loan their orchids to the Garden. On selected days, reference guides, potting materials, plants, and other merchandise will be available from local orchid societies, conversation organizations, and other vendors. Experts will also be on hand to answer questions and provide advice to local orchid growers.

The World of Orchids begins May 7, and runs through June 12, giving everyone time to see these gorgeous flowers. Organizers of events like this can use brochure printing to create informative pamphlets about the subject.
