Encinitas to get healthy

Classes in yoga to alleviate back pain will be held in Encinitas soon.

Using a yoga wall allows participants to flip upside-down, which frees the back from supporting the weight of the entire body, as it habitually does. Also, the position uses the weight of the body to align and stretch the spine. Reversing the body's usual position has been clinically verified to be the most helpful remedy for the conditions that were the initial cause of pain in the lower back.

Back pain often occurs when the discs in the spine in essence dry out. Instead of providing the cushioning necessary for a healthy spine, pain occurs. Using the yoga wall allows the spinal discs to regain hydration and fluidity, a process known as “imbibition.” Every cell needs nutrition, which is supplied by a flow of blood, but as there are no blood vessels leading to the discs, pain can occur and recovering from an injury is difficult. Physically manipulating the spine to allow nutrients to reach the discs is the purpose of using the Yoga Wall, though it is helpful for other ailments as well.

The Yoga Wall classes are available every week on Wednesday, from 6:15 pm until 7:45 pm, starting this Wednesday, February 17. The venue is Yogatropics West on 22nd Street in Encinitas. Classes will be led by Yoga therapist and teacher Elia Nikolaev. Flyer printing can be used to create instructional handouts for events like this.
