The Encinitas Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department recently released it guide to sports, classes, concerts, and other activities available in the new year. The department has created something for everyone.
The Sweetheart’s Ball is new this year, and will take place in February at the Encinitas Community Center. There will be dances for people of all ages, with refreshments and light appetizers on the menu. Parks department staffers urge people to attend the ball, enjoy themselves, and not be shy.
The department is also offering sports clinics and leagues, which they have separated in age groups for both adults and children. Sports for everyone include surfing, volleyball, golf, and basketball. Soccer and skateboarding clinics are for youth, while adults are invited to try co-ed kickball.
‘Tiny tots’, from ages two to five, can join a class called ‘Family Hula, Tahitian and Maori Dance’, and ‘Ready, Set Sing’, and also ‘Sing and Connecting the Generations through Music’. The classes aim to use music to help parents, grandparents, and children bond.
Jennifer Campbell, the director of Parks and Recreation, said she hoped the offerings would enhance the quality of life of all those who took part, a sentiment echoed by Catherine Blakespear, the mayor of Encinitas.
The Sweetheart’s Ball is set for 6:00 pm on February 15; people who want to know more about the program can visit the department's website. Officials developing this type of program can also use brochure printing to describe the choices.
