Rock pioneers to perform in Costa Mesa

The Wayfarer in Costa Mesa will host rock group GONG for a one-night performance this June. The show is open to patrons 21 and older.

Formed in the late 1960s, GONG built a global reputation for its genre-defying sound, blending elements of space rock, psychedelia, avant-garde jazz, and progressive influences. Since its founding by Daevid Allen, the band has undergone numerous lineup changes, yet retained a signature sound and loyal audience. Following Allen's death in 2015, the ensemble continued under a new generation of musicians, including bassist Dave Sturt, saxophonist Ian East, guitarist Fabio Golfetti, and frontman Kavus Torabi, who Allen personally chose to carry the project forward.

GONG’s recent work includes the 2023 studio release Unending Ascending, which followed the acclaimed live album Pulsing Signals in the year 2022 and earlier projects such as Rejoice! I’m Dead! (2016). These releases continue the group’s legacy of surreal lyricism.

General admission tickets are available for $31.81, which includes a $6.81 service fee. All sales are final. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the performance is scheduled from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Free parking is available at the venue.

Poster printing may be used by organizers to provide attendees with information about events such as this one.

The event is on Monday, June 23rd at The Wayfarer, 843 West 19th St, Costa Mesa, California.
