Costa Mesa to present class Broadway musical

Vanguard University’s theater department will stage a performance of Guys and Dolls. The celebrated Broadway musical highlights romance and humor against a Depression-era urban backdrop.

The production explores the lives of two couples who mix high-stakes gambling with personal ambition. The show will also incorporate iconic musical numbers synonymous with the 1950 musical.

The storyline follows Nathan Detroit as he seeks a venue for his covert craps game, Sky Masterson’s attempts to win over mission worker Sarah Brown, and Adelaide’s long-awaited chance at marriage after a 14-year engagement. The performance will feature lively choreography, ensemble singing, and comedic timing.

Since its Broadway debut 76 years ago, the production has received multiple awards, including Tony, Drama Desk, and Olivier recognitions. It has run for more than 1,200 performances.

Tickets for adults are priced at $25.24, including a $3.24 service fee, while senior and student tickets are available for $20.98, including a $2.98 service fee. Seating is assigned on a tiered basis, and ticket sales close on the day of the performance. Refunds are available up to two days before the show.
