A community celebration focused on disability awareness, accessibility, and inclusive programming is planned for this summer in Costa Mesa.
The event is being organized in recognition of National Disability Independence Day and will feature performances, educational workshops, and sensory-friendly activities for attendees of all ages.
The program will include live music throughout the day, along with appearances by organizations and performance groups representing a wide range of abilities and artistic disciplines. Scheduled presentations include dance showcases, percussion performances, and community arts programming.
Indoor activities will offer quieter spaces for guests seeking sensory accommodations. Organizers said attendees will have opportunities to participate in beginner-friendly American Sign Language workshops, story readings, and a reading session involving therapy dogs. Outdoor activities are expected to include bracelet-making, braille-themed crafts, instrument exploration, bubble stations, and tasting experiences.
Admission to the celebration is free.
Accessibility resources will be available throughout the venue, including sensory support items, large-Print materials, assistive listening tools, ASL interpretation, and designated quiet areas. The goal of the gathering is to encourage community participation while creating a welcoming environment for individuals with diverse physical, sensory, and developmental needs.
