A musical that has been a favorite for almost 70 years is coming to Costa Mesa.
The Segerstrom Center for the Arts will be the venue where families can enjoy the classic about the boy who never grew up, “Peter Pan.” The show is a new production, with Lonny Price handling the directorial duties and playwright Larissa FastHorse contributing additional material. Price is the winner of two Primetime Emmys for PBS specials, and FastHorse, who is a Sicangu Lakota, is the first known woman Native American to have her work, “The Thanksgiving Play,” produced on Broadway.
The iconic story begins when Peter Pan and his mischievous companion, Tinker Bell, appear in the Darling nursery and take the three children to Neverland on an adventure. There they meet the Lost Boys, the princess Tiger Lily, and the infamous villain, Captain Hook. The cast includes Nolan Almelda as Peter Pan, Cody Garcia as Captain Hook, and Hawa Kamara as Wendy.
The character of Peter Pan was created by Scottish author J.M. Barrie, and was first featured in several chapters of a novel for adults, “The Little White Bird,” published in 1902. Barrie went on to create the stage play “Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up” in 1904. Since then, there have been numerous stage and film adaptations of the story.
“Peter Pan” will be performed August 6-18 in Segerstrom Hall. Planners of events like this will often use poster printing to create advertisements for them.
