Hometown Heroes to be honored

The American Red Cross, Los Angeles Region has scheduled its Annual Hometown Heroes Luncheon, honoring those who have shown courage and humanitarianism serving their communities.

Among the many honors are a Humanitarian Hero Award for Jesus Villavicencio and Daniel Tauch, who performed CPR on a fellow worker, saving his life.

The Disaster Services Hero Award goes to Dr. Martixu Ravenscroft and Darlene Geekie, who provided free veterinary care to over 200 animals at an evacuation shelter.

Gabriel Castillo will receive the Youth Humanitarian Hero Award, for saving a choking classmate.

Angel Miranda and Gus Olmedo will receive the Disaster Services Hero Award for rescuing their neighbors when the neighbors' mobile home caught fire.

The Humanitarian Hero Award will go to Marcelo Retamosa and Jose Iriarte, who performed CPR on a bus driver until first responders arrived.

Michael Rogers and Thomas Hengzen, Reserve Deputies, will receive the First Responder Hero Award for saving both a woman and her beloved dog from the Woolsey Fires.

A Humanitarian Hero Award goes to Sergeant Erik Matusak for saving the life of a choking cafe patron.

Finally, First Responder Hero Awards go to Woolsey Fire Strike Teams XLF 1321A and XLC 1206A, for saving over 50 structures from the fires.

The luncheon is set for this Thursday, May 9 at the Carson Civic Center in Carson. The event begins at 11:30 am and runs through 1:30 pm, with the program beginning at noon. Organizers can use flyer printing to create a program for the event.
