Carson invites those interest in emergency response

People who are interested in becoming an emergency medical technician (EMT) should consider attending one of three upcoming sessions.

The meetings are not classes, but will provide information about the EMT Training Course offered by California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in Carson. Students in CSUDH's EMT course learn the skills and information that will enable them to successfully complete the national certifying examination, which leads to them being certified as EMTs - a job that is in high demand.

The course demands flexibility, persistence, and dedication, and presents a significant challenge to students. Those who succeed will become nationally-registered EMTS, and can be employed by a number of different emergency services including private ambulances, police, and fire departments.

The course meets California's training program requirements for placement on the national registry, including patient contacts, didactic hours, and training in the use of the glucometer; the epinephrine auto-injector; and naloxone; there are also four hours devoted to learning basic care of tactical casualties. Print shops are excellent resources to help develop materials for events like this.

At present, there are three sessions: June 3, at 10:00 am; June 20, at 1:00 pm; and July 25, at 10:00 am. The sessions are being held at California State University, Dominguez Hills, in the College of Extended & International Education. The first meeting is in Room EE-1218; the other two are in Room EE-1213. Interested parties should contact the school in case of any scheduling change.
