What's Happening in Scottsdale, AZ…

Scottsdale enjoys its own philharmonic

The Scottsdale Philharmonic will hold a performance in early May, entertaining local lovers of classical music.

The first part of the program will begin with Gounod’s Juliet Waltz (“Ah je veux vivre”) from Romeo and Juliet. It will continue with compositions from Liszt (Rákóczi March from his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15), Mendelssohn (A Midsummer Night’s Dream Wedding March), Rimsky- Korsakov (Miada’s Procession of Nobles #5), before ending with a tribute to Louis Armstrong called “Satchmo!” arranged by Ted Ricketts. Dan Reed will be on the trumpet.

After the intermission, the rest of the program will consist of Arensky’s Symphony no. 1 in B Minor.

The Scottsdale Philharmonic is a professional symphony orchestra that provides classical music concerts to Scottsdale and surrounding communities. It is currently under the baton of Moscow Music Conservatory’s world renown conductor Maestro Dmitry Polyakov. This will be the orchestra’s last performance until October.

The Philharmonic is funded by donations such as corporate gifts, the Eliter Partners (who sign up for either $1,000, $2,500, or $5,000 sponsorships, bequests, beneficiary designations, and concert sponsors – who pay $5,000.

The performance will take place Sunday, May 7 beginning at 4:00 pm at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts’ (SCPA) Virginia G. Piper Theater, 7380 E. Second Street. Tickets are available for $15, or $14 for members of the SCPA.
