Mesa welcomes back MLB spring training
Mesa baseball fans are eagerly awaiting the opening of this year's Cactus League Spring Training coming in late February.
This is where Major League Baseball teams come to get ready for the new season by evaluating players and building team chemistry while fans get a glimpse of future stars. These exhibition games are played by 15 MLB teams including the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, Oakland Athletics and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Although these games are played at 10 ballparks around Maricopa County including Camelback Ranch, Salt River Fields and Surprise Stadium, many Mesa fans are especially interested in the ones played in Hohokam Stadium a.k.a. Dwight W Patterson Field where the Oakland Athletics play. The first games there will be against the Rockies on February 23rd, the Giants on February 25 and the Padres on the 27th. Ten other games are scheduled from February 28th through March 14th.
Fans will be looking forward to seeing players such as catcher Shea Langeliers, Tyler Soderstrom at first base, Zach Gelof at second, Gio Urshela at third and Max Schuemann at shortstop.
Since lawn seating and special infield box tickets are so affordable for these preseason games, dads and sons often go together and enjoy the games by purchasing merchandise sporting their favorite teams' logo design. These items have often had their logos imprinted at local print shops.
Hohokam Stadium is located at 1235 N Center Street.
